Kettle Lamp by Shanghai-based furniture designer Jonas Merian. Merian is originally from Switerzland, but living in China for more than 5 years. As he moved to Shanghai and needed to furnish his studio he came up with the idea to work as furniture designer and to quit his former career as prosthetist and dig deeper into the field of recycling or upcycling design.
Merian says, “I always liked to work with my hands and started early to build my own furniture and lamps. Through my education and experience as a prosthetist I have learnt to work with a wide variety of different materials such as wood, metal, plastics, carbon fiber, silicone, textiles, leather and many more.”
His inspiring furniture work draws inspiration from mostly using old material like reclaimed wood of old houses. But he’s also using old objects like the aluminium kettle.
