Digging into the Suburbs of Madrid

Andrés Medina - Nebúla

Shot in the suburbs of Madrid, Nebúla (The Velvet Cell, Numbered First Edition of 50, £6.00) by photographer Andrés Medina wonderfully captures that ‘in-between’ space that is neither quite city nor suburb, but rather a no-mans land that lays somewhere in the midst. This enigmatic space is excellently captured by Medina in this series, captured on a solitary night shrouded in mist. In an area where all is not always as uniform as it seems, we are left to make our own judgements.

In his work as a photographer Medina uses only analog cameras, mostly medium format. He started with digital photography, but when two years ago he discovered medium format cameras and began to use different films, he realized he loved traditional photography chemicals and the developing and photographic enlargements. From that moment on, he exclusively uses analog cameras. ❚
